During the Christmas break I visited Zhao Yuzhongs solo exhibition at the Linda gallery in Singapore. Her work ranges from paper collages to the comprehensive application of paper and cloth onto ceramics. The original functions of the items disappear and they blossom into
sculptures through her choice of patterns and wrapping style.
However what caught my attention was her surreal collages that mixed animal heads with human bodies and fashion.
These surreal collages incorporate unique materials such as feathers, beads and fabric that adds to the collages depth. The poses done range from that of everyday interaction to the more fashion-esque style which adds humour to the pieces. The colour composition as well in each collage is unique to each frame that gives each animal its own character.
In terms of relating to my PPP, these collages offer a way in which the models and high fashion photography can be composed in editorials. Furthermore because they have a surreal look to them, it ties in with the unorthodox route I am taking in with OUGD404's publication design. However the mix match of textures and figures create a more lighthearted effect to the overall composition which may not be suitable for high fashion publications. Therefore these collages should be used within context of the intended publication design that reflects the tone of voice.
