Email gif

Made a gif from a selection of my work to entice the opening of dialogue between me and creatives professionals in emails.

Anthony McCall at Sprüth Magers

Anthony McCall's exhibition showcasing the use of light was interesting considering how he had manage to make light almost tangible, through his light shows that was made to look like light was being bent forcefully into shape.

Website design

Having a proper website to present myself to clients better establishes me as a professional designer.

The websites layout and design reflects my attitudes towards design.
The use of a dark, textured background references my often use for black and attention to details. The red type provides a high impact use of typography when viewed on screen and gives my 'brand' attitude.

The simplistic design makes navigating the website easy and seamless for the user.

The simplistic layout allows for easy addition of new content in the future.

The way in which my work is presented is purposeful. Preferring the direct application of a flat image of the design on screen compared to photographing my work.

I do not want to brand myself as another Behance style designer.

The large images of my work lets the content do the talking in terms of selling myself as a designer.

Creative Convos week

Dines

Dines highlighted the importance of 'fake it till you make it'. By having an email that made him look like a studio, he was more likely in finding professional work. At the early stages in his design career, finding clients was vital. So saying yes to a request even though you have no idea how to do it, is beneficial in getting connections within the industry. Say yes first and learn later.

Rose Nordin

Rose Nordin's talk was the most aligned with my practice.
Her zine workshop during the afternoon was a nice break to just have fun with design.
Applying for an art residency was a concept I hadn't really thought about.
This could be a possible direction to go towards after uni since it allows the creative freedom to apply art through design.

Eve Warren & Chris Shuttelworth

Packaging based studio Robot Food came down. Despite my hesitation in pursuing a career with commercial studios, Robot Food's portfolio of designs showed a more light hearted approach that doesn't necessarily take itself seriously.

Shannie Mears & Will de Groot

The Elephant Room are definitely a more advertising focused agency. This is an area that I would not like to go down as a designer. The talked more about the ideas of the work they've done rather than the actual designs.

Abraham Asefaw

To end the week off, Abraham's talk wasn't about his design but a workshop to help identify myself as a designer and to outline my goals for the future.
By doing so it helps narrow down my ambitions as a designer and gives a clear map of what I need to go towards.
