Took a visit to the ongoing Sterling Ruby exhibition, WORK WEAR: Garment and Textile Archive 2008-2016 in Sprüth Magers, London. For the very first time, LA-based artist Sterling Ruby is showcasing his clothing archive. From making his first "work-wear" garment in 2008 with leftover scraps from soft sculpture production and quilt projects, the now-signature pattern has been seen on countless textile assignments overseen by Sterling. For the “WORK WEAR: Garment and Textile Archive 2008-2016” exhibition, we see coats, ponchos, bags, shirts and pants all on display, each of which features the fabrics used to create the artist’s quilts, collages, textiles and sculptures.
